What I’ve Learned in 2017

I don’t know about you but phewf, 2017 absolutely flew past for me! Like any year it’s had its ups and downs, so in true blogger stylee I thought I’d sum up a few of the things I’ve learned along the way. Happy New Year y’all!

Control is futile
Life ebbs and flows and takes you in directions you might never have expected – sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy the ride and see where it takes you. Having goals and milestones is great, but letting go of those expectations (and limitations) is pretty liberating, and that’s when the real fun begins. But do…

Remember who you are
Remember what you love, who you love, what inspires you, and the person you always set out to be.

Carrie Bradshaw is actually an awful human being
How did I never notice this before?! I used to love Sex & the City but I can’t watch it these days without noticing it. All she ever talks about is her own (usually menial and self-inflicted) problems – but kudos to her friends for putting up with her.

Things usually aren’t as bad as they seemĀ
A new situation, an event full of people you’ve never met before, jumping out of a plane, managing the expectations of others… it’s easy to anticipate the worst and build it up in your mind, but when you just do it, nine times out of ten it’s never actually as bad as you’ve persuaded yourself it’s going to be.

I love jigsaws, and that’s ok
Look, I’m 30 now and I’m aware this is the start of a very slippery slope, but I’M OK WITH IT.

Looking after yourself is importantĀ
Sometimes it’s hard to put your hand up and say you’re struggling, but there’s absolutely no wrong in doing that. Chances are you’re surrounded by people who really do care if you’re ok. Be good to yourself and show yourself a little self-care, whether that’s through meditation, a bath or simply reading a trashy magazine for ten minutes. It’s not easy when life is so busy, but taking a moment every so often to breathe, reboot and reflect makes all the difference to your wellbeing – and likewise, the small gestures of kindness you can show towards others can also really make a difference to their day. Hey – I didn’t say this blog post wouldn’t come with a side of cheese! Which leads me nicely into…

Cheezels are life
I managed to go an entire year and a half in Aus before trying these delicious cheesey snacks and OH MY. Game changer!

I want to go everywhere
The more I travel, the more I want to travel, and it’s becoming a full-blown addiction! As soon as I’ve finished one trip I’m already looking up the next… I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store.
